Gastric bypass surgery costs too much money. Even if you have medical insurance there are so many out of pocket expenses that you have to pay for yourself. My surgeon wants me to go to their own 6 month weight loss program that is required by the insurance company in order to get approval. Then every time I go to an appointment it's a $20 copay.

Each test that I go to take also requires a co-pay, and some of them even require me to pay up front and then deal with trying to get reimbursed myself. Then after surgery I am supposed to buy all of these protein shakes, vitamins, supplements, healthy foods, you name it. If you are living check to check right now, or borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, then you should really look into all of the before and after requirements. Your body and quality of life after surgery will be suffer if you are not able to financially support the quality of life necessary to remain healthy after the fact.
