I am 30 pounds overweight

I am 30 pounds overweight. I was always a chubby kid. In college, the weight crept on in dribs and drabs. After college, I was actually 50 pounds overweight, but I lost 20 pounds during the first few years I was out on my own. I've had mixed results with my own weight loss. Part of that is because I don't exercise enough, and when I do, I get hungry.

I often have to eat on the fly and can't bring my own lunch. Working out for an hour doesn't get rid of the hamburgers that stick to my stomach like so much dead weight. Recently I had oral surgery that seriously restricted how much and how often I can eat (it's a side effect). In one week, I lost 10 pounds and I have kept that weight off. In a week, I'm allowed to exercise again. I am seriously considering just taking long walks so I don't feel like I'm owed extra food, and therefore become overweight again.

I would like to lose the rest of my overweight poundage, but I think it's going to take a long time and will require me to retrain my brain on what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. I also need to drink more water. Proper water intake seems to improve my eating habits and energy levels. If I do these things then I will definitely avoid needing weight loss surgery.
