If I can lose weight should I have gastric bypass surgery

If I can lose weight, should I have gastric bypass surgery?

I have been struggling with my weight since I was about 12 years old. I am going to be 35 years old this year. I have lost weight at times in my life, but it never worked out long term. The most weight I've lost was on the Atkins diet, and even then I cheated lots of times.

I know that after gastric bypass surgery you basically take on a very similar diet. You are supposed to eat 80 grams of protein a day. If I could just make these changes on my own then I wouldn't need surgery. I am so confused. I go back and forth constantly weighing out the pros and cons. Can I live with myself if I end up with some of these complications and my life ends up worse off than it is now?

I know there are no guarantees, but I would love to here from people who have had a bariatric surgery? Are you happy? Would you do it all again if you had a chance to go back in time? Is your life better now? You would be helping me out a bunch. Thanks.
