No Support at Home for Lap Band Surgery

by Chevy
(West Virginia)

I have started the long process of getting approved for Lap Band Surgery through my insurance. My husband is doing everything possible to make me fail and not get to my appointments. I am not real sure why he is doing this. I am 5'9" and 302 pounds I am 29 yrs old. The smallest I ever remember being was 190lbs. and that was 11 years ago. I have fought this battle my whole life. I just want to do something the help me along.

Why is it that he feels the need to keep me from succeeding? I know that if I do not have his support now that I will not have it after and with 2 small children I will need the help.

If there are any men out there that have felt this way before their wives surgery please let me know what I have to do to make him understand that this is for me to be healthy and able to be here for our children.

I guess that is all I have to say today.

Lap Bands are the Bandsters Choice
by: Anonymous

Lap bands are the bandsters choice. Bariatric surgery is for you and you alone. You do what's best for you. Even though we all have families, husbands, wives, girlfriends, and boyfriends, the decision to lose weight and going with weight loss surgery is a very personal decision. We are the only ones who have to live with our obese bodies, right?

No Supprt for Lap Band Surgery Home Find it Outside
by: From Andrea

I'm sorry to hear that you aren't getting any support from your husband when it comes to having lap band surgery. That is a hard thing o deal with. Deciding to have weight loss surgery is a big step, and I'm sure you've thought about all of the possible outcomes for a long time before making your decision.

You're husband might accept it better if you explain to him again that you are having lap band surgery to improve your health, your lives together, and to be there for the kids. Confirm that you love him, are in love with him, and you don't have eyes for anyone else.

Unfortunately, a lot of men feel threatened when the woman in their lives decide to make changes that have nothing to do with them. They feel that once you've lost the weight then you are going to find someone else and leave them or cheat on them. He might not say it out loud, but believe me, that thought is there.

If that doesn't work, you still have to do what you feel is best for your body. If he won't watch the kids while you go to your appointments then try to find a sitter. If you have relatives or friends that live within a reasonable distance from you, ask them for help. Do you belong to a church or some other community group? You may be able to get some support from them as well.

You probably have a few months before your surgery. It will be costly, but start saving your money now and you could afford to have a home attendant or nanny come and help you for a couple of weeks after your surgery until you are back on your feet. The good thing is that the recovery time for the lap band is typically less than with the gastric bypass, so you should be back to normal quicker.

I wish you all the best, and be encouraged.
