What weight loss surgery produces the most weight loss?

I am over 300 pounds right now, so I need to lose at least 140 pounds to get down to a normal range for my height. Is there one bariatric procedure that works better than all of the others? If so, what is it?

Definitely the Gastric Bypass

The gastric bypass operation definitely produces more drastic weight loss than the gastric band. That is because the pouch created with the bypass is not adjustable. With the lap band you have to go back for fills as you lose weight and the band is no longer as tight around your stomach.

The bypass also causes malabsorption of some of your food because it is "skipping" so much of your small intestine as it goes through your digestive track. That is where most of the nutrients get absorbed for use by your body. It also produces something called dumping in many patients. This is where you feel terribly sick and may vomit if you eat certain foods like sugar, sweets, bread, and other foods that you may not discover cause dumping until you try eating them.

With the lap band or realize band you don't have any dumping. You can adjust the tightness around your stomach, so if you don't want to be too restricted then you just don't get a band fill. There is also no malabsorption because your entire digestive tract is left in tack and nothing is removed. It's basically just making a little bubble/pouch at the top of your stomach which causes you to only be able to eat a small amount of food at one time.
