Why do people get the gastric bypass surgery when they are not ready to change their eating habits

Why do people get the gastric bypass surgery when they are not ready to change their eating habits or lifestyles? I do not understand how and why this happens so often. Weight loss surgery is not a quick fix. It requires dedication, commitment, and am understanding of all that is needed in order to succeed.

I know of at least 3 people wqho have gone through with this operation and come out with the same mind set. So what do they do? Instead of eating their protein, vegetables, and drinking enough water, they decide to cheat. By cheating, I mean that they drink milkshakes, eat ice cream, snack on the wrong foods all day long, never exercise, you name it. It's like they purposely sabotage themselves. Why put yourself through all of the trouble then?

What's worse is that they don't even take the vitamins and supplements they are supposed to take daily after having the procedure done. So now their bodies become weaker and they start experiencing some of the gastric bypass complications you talked about on this website. A lot of those dangers are avoidable with the proper, consistent aftercare and maintenance. Please people, if you are not ready to change your entire life then don't cause your body to undergo such a drastic change so quickly.

You are so right

You are so right. But don't forget about taking care of your mental and emotional side too. I knwo someone who had surgery, lost the weight, and then hated their lives more than when they were fat! You are going to become a totally new person, if you do things right. You may need someone to help you adjust to this new person and love them. A lot of overweight people hate themselves.

No one likes to talk about it, and we pretend to be happy and jolly. But when no one else is around and you have to look yourself in the mirror, we don't like what we see. That feeling of disgust and disdain doesn't go away just because you lose weight sometimes. Or you may go off the other end, where you start to feel that you are better than everyone else and start to exhibit destructive, and thoughtless activities and behaviors. I think they call it transfer addiction. So just be careful. You have to care for your body and your mind after going through something like teh gastric bypass.
